Networked DVD Player with MPEG 4
| Product Description | What is a networked DVD player?
Your television and your computer are the two main sources of entertainment in your home, and yet they can’t work together to share information and create new viewing and listening options. But the NPD3117 networked DVD player from Oritron takes them from distant relations to best buddies. Best of all, if you already have a home network, you can set up this product and have it running in minutes.
If you installed a home network, you probably did it so your computers could share files or a high-speed Internet connection. And once you had it running, you probably thought that was all you could do with it. But no, that’s only the beginning. Enter the Oritron On-media DVD Player - while it operates like any other DVD player, it can communicate with your home network and display media—pictures, music, or video—that you have stored on your computer.
Setting Up On-media...
The On-media works with the two major types of home network: wired Ethernet networks or wireless WiFi networks. When you buy the On-media, first hook it up to your TV as you would any other DVD player. The On-media features advanced functions like progressive scan (for a sharper picture) and 5.1 audio (for five bands of rich sound), so your DVDs will look and sound great.
If you have a wired router on your home network, you’ll need to buy the On-media DVD Player with a 16-bit PCMCIA Ethernet card. This installs into a slot on the back of the player. The card has an Ethernet jack, so you can connect a cable from the DVD player to your router. On the other hand, if you have a WiFi router on your home network, buy the On-media along with a 16-bit wireless PCMCIA card. With a wireless connection, you’ll need to use the On-media remote control to run through a configuration screen on your TV. If you have Web Key security on your network, enter the code at this time.
At this point, your On-media player is already talking to your home network. Now all you need to do is install the On-media streaming server software on your computer. This program finds all the available media on your computer, then lets you select only those files that you wish to stream to your television. You can install the software on every computer on your network, so each one can share files. |
